[NZ] Hot Water Beach in Kawhia

Due to the awful weather during the Christmas holiday, all the plan has been called off. Luckily this new year has treated us well,  then we were able to had a short trip to West Coast of Waikato. Raglan is a popular surfing location. You can imagine, the beach, ice-cream shop, bars and markets, make a perfect place for family summer vacation.

Hot Water Beach

However, the Hot Water Beach is the main purpose of this trip. It is located in Kawhia which is a very small town that you may or may not heard of it. It can be found in Google Maps, it is at the end Te Puia Rd and a short walk across the sand dunes to the beach. Don’t go with barefoot,I know it is weird to say this but the sand is burning hot!

Come here at low tide, walk on the beach and dig where you can feel the heat, that should be the right place for your hot pool. As this is not a very famous place like Coromandel, it was really relaxing without the crowd. It was fun.

We also stopped by at Bridal Veil Falls and next to the Pipiwharauroa Trail for the wind farm.

One thing that worth to mention, we spent a night at Oparau Rodhouse. That was awesome. This free campground is well maintain with toilet and picnic table. The general stores have everything and delicious fried chickens!
